Thanks for visiting the Image Galleries. Please follow these guidelines to make your viewing experience rewarding and productive.

Browse by category by clicking any of the pre-selected categories and then browsing the thumbnail pages. Hover your mouse over a thumbnail to bring up the photo caption. Click on a thumbnail to show a larger view and a caption. Within the larger view is a keyword list for that particular image. Click on any keyword to initiate a search based on that word or phrase.

From the Image Galleries home page and other site pages you can search for images by entering words or phrases. Pay close attention to whether "AND" "OR" or "PHRASE" is selected. They perform just as expected. For example, if you want to find all photos of lighthouses that are in a vertical format, simply enter the words "vertical" and "lighthouses" and make sure "AND" is selected. Conversely, if you search for "uwharrie national forest" make sure "PHRASE" is selected; otherwise, the search will return images unrelated to the forest. The search feature is case insensitive, so there is no need to capitalize anything.

If you browse only by the pre-selected categories, you may miss some photos. This is because each image is located in only one category. For example, photographs of Toxaway Falls, which is in Gorges State Park, are located in the "Waterfalls Cascades" category. If you browse only the "North Carolina Parks" category you won't find them. But if you do a search using the phrase "gorges state park" you'll find every photo from the park, including Toxaway Falls. This is very important to remember if you are looking for specific images. All North Carolina location photos include the county name in the keywords.

The "Add to Lightbox" feature allows you to place images into your own gallery. Simply click the button for any photos you like. To view your lightbox, click the button in the upper right. With the lightbox open, there are several options in the "Lightbox Manager" tabs at the top of the thumbnails. "New" brings up a blank lightbox upon which you can add new files. You can have multiple lightboxes, based on whatever criterion you decide. "Activate" brings up a list of your lightboxes and lets you choose which one to view. "Rename" lets you name each lightbox as desired. "Remove" allows you to delete an unwanted lightbox. "Email" brings up instructions for emailing your lightbox to me. "Download" allows you to download your lightbox.

Please note that the only circumstance in which I allow downloading images from this website is when a client needs to use the images for making comps or for purchase consideration. Read this page for more information about website content usage and copyright issues.

Please note that while I am constantly adding new photos, I have many thousands of pictures that are not in the image galleries. If you don't see what you want, please contact me.
