Reaching for the Moon…and the Corkscrew!

Those of you who know me well, know that I sometimes struggle with juggling two favorite things: Photographing during the magic light of twilight and drinking red wine. See, evening twilight occurs right at uncorking time, which makes it kind of tough sometimes to make a choice. The best solution, of course, is to combine the two, and I’ve been known to do that on more than one occasion.

How do you pick your favorite sports teams? (I promise, this question isn’t as random as it seems.) I’ve always made fun of my wife for choosing teams based on the uniforms. Patricia is a very talented designer, and when she sees colors on a uniform that don’t go together, well, it’s a safe bet that her bet won’t be for that team. How superficial is that?Night Harvest wine bottle

Well, I have a confession to make. I was in the grocery store the other day and made a purchase based solely on the label design. But this wasn’t just any purchase, mind you. I was in the wine section (imagine that!) and noticed a bottle of red wine called “Night Harvest”. Any time I see the word “night”, I pay attention, but this label upped the ante by showing a silhouette of a person standing on a stepladder reaching for the moon. I’m sorry, but that bottle was going to be mine!

Now, for all of you thinking that I must really be a shallow person, well, sometimes I’m really a shallow person. I had my red wine with the coolest label ever and I was a happy camper. So there.

How was the wine? Seriously, it was pretty good! All I cared about was the label, but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. And no, I’m not getting any kickbacks from Night Harvest, although if anyone from the company should happen to read this and want to talk to me, I’m all ears.

Back to the part about me being shallow. You know, sometimes shallow is okay. I think we photographers take ourselves too seriously at times. It’s okay to step away from the camera (or computer, smart phone, iPad…) and enjoy some of the simpler pleasures of life. Like drinking a fine glass of Cabernet from a bottle with a cool label!
