New waterfall on Flat Creek

Bernie has found a new waterfall on the upper part of Flat Creek (upstream from where FR 4662 ends at the trailhead for Flat Creek Falls). He says that he has cut a trail to the bottom and that it is pretty easy to get to; although you have to cross Flat Creek twice. To see the waterfall, cross Flat creek at the parking area and bear right. Take the first trail to the left, which heads uphill and crosses over vehicle-blocking mounds. Follow this old logging road for less than 10 minutes to a flat spot at the first gap. Look for an older logging road heading downhill to the left. Follow this logging road for another 10 minutes, ignoring a side trail that goes left down to the creek. When you come to what looks like the end of the logging road, you should be able to hear the falls. Look to the left and slightly downhill for a trail that meanders through the bog-like bottomland toward the falls. The trail crosses Flat Creek below a picturesque 3-footer. Go up and around a big boulder and you arrive at the bottom of a nice 20-footer. There is another twisting 20-footer on top of the falls that you can't see from the bottom. Bernie says he has cut a trail from the logging road up on the ridge to the upper waterfall, but has not connected the two trails. A winter project, no doubt!

The above report is mostly Bernie's words, with a few minor edits applied. I haven't been to these new falls yet, so I really appreciate such a detailed account. Thanks Bernie!
