Most images on this website are available as fine-art prints. My stock files contain thousands of additional photographs that may be available as well. If you don’t see what you want, let me know what you’re looking for.
Printing Process
I personally process the image files in Photoshop and other software to remain faithful to my vision while capturing the image. To produce the prints, I have teamed with a master printer using the latest inkjet technology. We do not make prints ahead of time in cookie-cutter fashion. Each print is custom made to order.
Paper Choices & Longevity
Prints are available on your choice of two standard mediums, premium luster paper and premium canvas. Both mediums produce a different representation of the image. You should choose carefully based upon your intended display. Our premium luster medium is bright white with a moderate sheen and, unlike typical glossy paper, has some texture. It can render very vivid colors. Premium canvas is bright white, beautifully textured, and very durable. It has a “natural” look, which makes it great for nature scenes. Both mediums provide longevity of at least 100 years if displayed properly—under glass, low humidity, away from direct sunlight, using archival matting and framing materials. If you want your print on a medium other than these two, please inquire for availability and pricing.
Special Note About Canvas
Canvas prints offer a unique perspective. Contrary to what you may have heard, the image does not lose detail in canvas prints compared to paper. Also, when framed conventionally, you do not need matting or glass. Most people who order canvas prints do not intend to display them in traditional frames, however. They want a “gallery wrap,” which is stretching the canvas around a wood frame. The frame can be any thickness, but one to two inches is typical. Canvas wraps can be displayed as is without any further embellishments, or the stretcher can be framed with decorative molding. As with traditional framing, you’re on your own with wraps. I provide the canvas print only.
When ordering canvas prints, you need to specify the border width and color. Our standard border is 2 inches and black, but we can make it any size and color. If you like, we can choose a color that is complementary to the image. We can print on canvas without including a border, but you need to specify this. Please note that the canvas prices are based upon the standard 2-inch border. If you order a 12x18 canvas with standard border, the overall size of the print plus border will be 16x22. If you order a 12x18 canvas without a border, the overall size of the print will be 12x18, but there will be a non-printed border of about 2 inches in both dimensions.
Print Sizes
Notice that I do not offer prints in traditional sizes. There is a good reason for this. It is because I do not like to butcher my images. Without getting into technical jargon regarding aspect ratios and cropping, let me simply state that I carefully compose my photographs to include exactly what I want to express, and exclude everything else. The resulting image size doesn’t always fit in a “standard” size frame. So be it!
So what do you do if you already have a frame you wish to use for the print? In that case, let me know which photograph you want and the precise size you need it to be. If the photo will look good after changing the aspect ratio to fit your frame, I’ll cheerfully sell you the print. But if I’m not comfortable with the way it looks, I’m afraid you’re out of luck with that particular photograph.
Typically, I do not offer prints smaller than 10x15 for individual orders. I put great care into the beauty and quality of my fine-art prints. It is simply not cost effective to custom-produce prints in the smaller sizes. Besides, most of my customers purchase prints because they want to hang a fine piece of original artwork on their walls. Prints in smaller sizes generally do not display as well as larger ones. With that said, I understand that you may have a good reason for wanting a smaller print. Perhaps you have a special frame or limited space for display. In those cases, I am happy to accommodate your request provided you are willing to pay the same price as a 10x15 print.
All panoramic prints vary in size based upon how many shots I stitched together in making the pan and how I cropped the image. For prints, I can keep the width (height for a vertical pan) fixed at any size you like, but the height (width for a vertical pan) will vary according to the aspect ratio. Note that for some pans, the short dimension can be very small. For example, some of my pans are only 4 inches high when printed at 24 inches wide.
If you are a commercial customer in need of several prints for your project, please contact me for a special quote. I am happy to provide prints in any sizes and quantities you need.
Matting & Framing
All prints are sold unmatted and unframed. I do not offer these services because your local frame shop can do a better job at a lower price. I create photographs. Prints will have a generous white border that you can cover with the matte board or leave exposed as desired. Generally, you’ll want to have the matte overlap the white border as much as possible to provide stability for the print in the frame.
Other Goodies
All prints are signed by the photographer—me—in the lower right corner of the white border, just below the image. I do not sign my name in the image unless specifically requested to do so. All prints come with a signed caption card that describes the technical aspects of the photograph (subject matter, location, etc.) as well as providing special insight into the process of capturing the image.
Viewing Photos on Computer Screens and in Editorial Media
Every computer monitor displays colors differently, even those that are properly calibrated. Think about how different the television screens look in a store display. A computer is exactly the same. Although my monitor is carefully calibrated using expensive software and hardware, I am not overly concerned with whether my prints match the monitor perfectly. What I AM concerned about is that my prints match my VISION. Every print I ship is faithful to my perception of the reality in which I captured the image. It does not necessarily match the way it looks on my computer screen. Photos reproduced in books, magazines, and calendars have the same issue, though perhaps to a lesser degree. The consequence is that the prints may not match precisely what you see on your computer or on a printed page. But you can be sure that the print matches my vision of how it should look.
Delivery Schedule
Every print I sell is custom made to order. In most cases, you should expect delivery within two to four weeks. However, if I happen to be away on a photo shoot when you place your order, I will not be able to make the print until I return. In such a case, delivery could be delayed by two to three weeks. If you must have your print by a certain date, please contact me by phone or email to verify that I can meet your schedule.
Guarantee
If you’re not happy with your print, send it back within 30 days and I’ll refund your full purchase price. Simple as that. But please understand that we take great pride in our custom printing process. If you’re not initially satisfied with the print, tell us why and we’ll work hard to make it right for you.
Ordering & Shipping
Prints are rolled in tubes and shipped via FedEx second-day delivery. There is a flat fee of $25 to cover shipping and handling within the continental U.S. Please inquire for rates to other locations. All orders shipped to a North Carolina address must include 6.75% sales tax on the print price. (Shipping is not taxable.)
I am in the process of setting up online ordering for prints and books. In meantime, I am only able to accept cash, checks, or money orders as payment. Personal checks from first-time customers are subject to bank approval before shipping.
Print Pricing Chart
Print sizes are given in inches. Please contact me for prices on larger sizes. The size listed for panoramics (pan) is the width for horizontals and the height for verticals. The short dimension will vary according to the aspect ratio.
