To make the best waterfall photos, you need to understand the nuances of lighting, water flow, time of day, and many other conditions. With nearly 40 years of experience exploring and photographing waterfalls, I have that covered.
I led my first photo tour in 1992. The location? North Carolina’s waterfalls. Join me and I’ll share with you experiences and photo secrets from a lifetime of chasing these extraordinary waterfalls!

GENERAL ITINERARY
I do not establish a precise itinerary for photo tours ahead of time because I want to choose the subjects based on the weather and other conditions. We will meet in the afternoon of Thursday, October 27. After orientation, I will give a program on photographing waterfalls, after which we’ll have dinner as a group. We’ll get an early start on Friday and visit as many waterfalls as we can. We’ll have lunch in the field (provided) and dinner will be together as a group. Saturday will be a repeat of Friday. On Sunday, we’ll head out in the morning and visit two or three additional waterfalls.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
You should be in reasonably good shape to attend this photo tour. While we won’t be doing anything overly strenuous, we will be in the field all day on Friday and Saturday. Some of the waterfalls we’ll visit require steep (though very short) bank scrambles and may involve rock hopping streams. One hike we may do is about 1.5 miles one-way and has a moderate section with several steps.
LODGING & TRANSPORTATION
Lodging and transportation to Brevard is not included. It is recommended that you stay at the host hotel, where we will have breakfast and classroom sessions. Complete hotel and traveling information will be provided when you register.
REGISTRATION & PAYMENT INFO
Full payment is required at the time of registration. You can register online by clicking the “Register Now” buttons on this page. If you prefer to pay by personal check, please contact me.
